First Meet-Up of 2010!
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on March 12, 2010
As the days pass later each evening and the afternoons grow warmer, spring has genuinely begun to manifest slowly across the Lehigh Valley. It is in that spirit, that I am super stoked to announce the first Remember Meet-Up of 2010.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to take a tour of South Mountain Reservoir guided by the DCNR, Allentown’s arborist and an independent forester. It is my intention to spread that wealth of knowledge with you readers in person.
So, the first meeting will take place on South Mountain. We will be going for a hike up to the old pavilion site, taking a look at the lake, and examining the biodiversity of the mountain as spring explodes. This is going to be great; I really hope you can make it out.
The date for the event will be Saturday April 17th.
I wanted to offer a month’s notice so everyone who wants to make it out can. If you have any questions or suggestions leave a comment. I will be setting up a Facebook event page which you can reach here, and if you haven’t yet, please become a fan of Remember on Facebook.
So pumped for this!
Updates will come as the date draws near.

Our Picnic in the Park and a CBP Construction Update
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 31, 2009
Yesterday, we gathered on a beautiful afternoon in Cedar Beach Parkway for a picnic, some Frisbee and a walk through the construction in the Gardens.

Here, Sean lounges and sips his root beer:
Walking through the Gardens, I can offer a little construction update. The trenches are completely dug through the Rose Garden. Guiseppe is working fast on the completion of his columns and in the Old Fashioned Garden, they have leveled out the ground around the path and it looks even better than it did. The Garden should look great next summer.

I want to thank everyone for coming out yesterday. I was glad to be able to have a positive discussion about the construction and it was a genuinely good time. A special thanks goes to the folks who made the long drive from points south to come out, thanks Jos, Mike and Dani.
For the record, I award the frisbee MVP to my friend Will. He flailed around like a fish out of water and ate grass more than once while trying to make catches. It was a sight.
Thanks again if you made it out. I hope to see everyone again, next time.
Walk in the Park 3

While beginning my thought process for our next gathering in the park, I was torn about which park to do it in and what exactly to do. I wasn’t sure if it should be another walk or something different like a picnic.
So, I leave it up to you my readers.
Leave your suggestions for another park gathering as a comment. (If you aren’t registered on blogspot, just leave it as anonymous.) I’m up for anything. I have thought about a walk in Trout Creek Parkway or a walk through the entire Lehigh Parkway or a picnic down at Cedar Beach. Let’s see what you think.
I want to get more and more people out to celebrate our parks and the nature therein. Let’s hear your ideas folks.

Our second Walk in the Park
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 3, 2009
This past Saturday, our second get together took place at Trexler Park.
Noon was apparently too early for my brother:
We began our walk at the main entrance and headed up towards the statue of General Trexler. That hill was tough on me with the heat so I have to tip my hat to Jos and Jim for pushing strollers up it. My mom gets a tip of the hat as well for making it up there with a severe ankle injury.

It’s funny that excluding me and my immediate family, the folks that came out for the walk were not from Allentown; Jos and Dani grew up in Coopersburg, Jim and Susie grew up outside of Bethlehem and Eric grew up in Macungie. I was glad to share as much of the historical knowledge about Trexler Park and General Trexler that I know, with them.
We ended our walk at the lagoon. We were able to see a beautiful heron on the rocks at the back end of the water.

I want to thank everyone for coming out on Saturday. It was a great time. I hope more people can join us for our next event. I will announce plans for our next get together which I am thinking will be a picnic at Cedar Beach in a few days. Hopefully it won’t be so darn hot!

The first Walk in the Park

This past Saturday at noon, I held our first Walk in the Park. Our group met at Bogart’s Bridge and began our walk heading towards the Little Lehigh Fly Shop.

Despite the clouds, it was a beautiful day for a walk and from the amount of people in the Parkway that afternoon, it seemed that everyone agreed. As we walked we talked about the Little Lehigh Creek, and the importance of Riparian buffers. It wasn’t all serious though, we had fun as well. Here you can see Matt reeling in defeat following a failed attempt to skip a stone across the creek:
We have a mascot as well. Her name is Zoey.
All in all, our first Walk in the Park was a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to future meet-ups. I hope our group grows each time. Come and join us next time. I want to thank Matt, Liz, Jason and Cate for coming out.
This Saturday: We’re going for a walk
