Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on November 12, 2009
When I started writing this blog, The Cedar Beach construction had yet to begin. Now, nearly eight months later, a significant amount of construction has already been completed and more construction is currently underway. Today, I am going to show you the journey that Cedar Beach Parkway has thus far undergone; primarily the construction of pathways in the Rose Garden and Old Fashioned Garden and the refurbishing on the reflecting ponds. Take a look.

Our Picnic in the Park and a CBP Construction Update
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 31, 2009
Yesterday, we gathered on a beautiful afternoon in Cedar Beach Parkway for a picnic, some Frisbee and a walk through the construction in the Gardens.

Here, Sean lounges and sips his root beer:
Walking through the Gardens, I can offer a little construction update. The trenches are completely dug through the Rose Garden. Guiseppe is working fast on the completion of his columns and in the Old Fashioned Garden, they have leveled out the ground around the path and it looks even better than it did. The Garden should look great next summer.

I want to thank everyone for coming out yesterday. I was glad to be able to have a positive discussion about the construction and it was a genuinely good time. A special thanks goes to the folks who made the long drive from points south to come out, thanks Jos, Mike and Dani.
For the record, I award the frisbee MVP to my friend Will. He flailed around like a fish out of water and ate grass more than once while trying to make catches. It was a sight.
Thanks again if you made it out. I hope to see everyone again, next time.
CCP Construction Update 11: Alot of Stuff Going On!
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 25, 2009
First, the trenches for the continuation of the pathway in the Old Fashion Garden through the Rose Garden have started to be dug out:

Second, the stone pillars in the Rose garden are starting to look beautiful. Giuseppe is doing a great job.

Third, I ran into Giuseppe in the Old Fashion Garden where he was scoping out the stairs. He informed me that he will be fixing them up once his pillars are complete.
I will be looking forward to seeing his work.
Lastly, some aquatic lilies and other plants have been placed in the ponds:

Things are happening quick down there. I’ll keep on it.

CCP Update 10: Completed Old Fashion Garden Path and Giuseppe
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 21, 2009
Take a look at the new paths, they’re beautiful. I took my mother with me and as she is handicapped, she was excited about how easy it was for her to walk through there. Good job all involved.

I hope the old fountain returns.
Giuseppe was hard at work in the summer heat on the stone columns. He was adding the decorative stone. He told me in his thick accent: “Think of roses hanging over top, it will be beautiful.” I can’t wait to see his finished work.
It really is looking good down there. I spoke with a gentleman named John who agreed. He was especially happy that the work was done quickly. It has been more than interesting documenting these changes and I look forward to keeping on it as future construction continues.

CCP Construction Update 9: Finished pathways and Rose garden work
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 20, 2009
As you are reading this the final pathway at the Old fashion garden is being laid with these:
The pathway is starting to look very nice as it is being finished:

Down at the Rose garden, stone pillars have been erected in the trench that had been half filled with concrete. The gentleman doing the work was very nice and allowed me to take pictures as he worked.

I’ll have the finished pathways up on here tomorrow, if they get them done today.

Cedar Creek Construction Update 8: Now the paths…
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 17, 2009
Work continues in the Old Fashion Garden. The long trenches that were dug a few weeks ago have been filled with loose stone. I imagine that this is the base for the pathways that will be installed.

Down at the Rose Garden, the trench that was dug by the Malcolm Gross statue has been half filled with concrete.
While the ponds are full, it does not appear as if the fish have been returned yet or any aquatic plant life restored. There will be much more to come as work continues.

Cedar Creek Construction 6: Three feet High and Rising
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on August 4, 2009
I happened upon Cedar Beach this afternoon by accident. The financial aid office at Muhlenberg was closed so I figured I would take a peek down there and see what work was being done while I waited for the office to reopen. I discovered water in the ponds and it was way too much to be from recent rains. They are,as you read this, refilling the ponds.

I do not know if this is the final filling. (I imagine it is) I will update further later this evening with more pictures. In the meantime, work continues in the Old Fashion Garden. Some of the trenches have been filled, some new ones have been dug and large pipes have been laid:

It will be interesting to see what the ponds look like this evening…
Cedar Creek Parkway Construction: 5-Hot Update
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on July 30, 2009
I discovered that new deeper trenches have been dug in both the existing trench and in entirely new areas of the Old Fashion Garden.

I spoke with one of the workers down there and asked him for the latest. He told me that they are indeed laying a new irrigation system but are also working on the beginnings of a new stone path. He was very nice and let me know that the job he was doing was going to make the Garden better. I agree. Once the pathway is finished, the way they have it dug out, it is going to look very nice down there.
Nothing new was happening to the ponds.

Cedar Creek Parkway Construction: 4 -BIG Updates
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on July 23, 2009
Journeying down to CBP to check on the construction today I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. All of the excess stone had been removed from the pond beds and all the stone work had been finished and the pond beds were smoothed out and fixed up.

There were new workers down here today.
I spoke with one of the gentleman and asked him when his work would be finished. He told me: “Today.” I then asked when he thought the ponds could be refilled and he responded with: “Tonight, its up to the city.” I am not sure what the next step is for the city but it looks like the ponds will be ponds again very soon. The work done looks beautiful. I am excited to see the area once the water returns.
The largest pond was still being worked on during my visit:

The edge has been refinished and again, it looks great.
Good job. It looks like our cow is going to his marine view back soon.
Cedar Creek Parkway Construction: 3 -Major Updates
Posted by Andrew Kleiner in Uncategorized on July 16, 2009

This afternoon I discovered the gate to the Old Fashioned Garden blocked with an orange fence. The garden itself has had a large grass path way in its center dug up, as well as the area around the fountain.

It would appear that this is where a stone pathway will be laid. If that is the case, I think this path will be a nice addition to the garden and will allow handicap access to the entire area, once a ramp is installed. It looks like the path will continue into the Rose Gardens, although work there looks as if it is just beginning.
Down in the reflecting ponds I saw many workers chipping, resealing, and working away. Their progress continues to be noticeable and the work is coming along nicely.

By the way, despite construction, the Old Fashioned Gardens look beautiful this summer(I hope further construction keeps this example):

For a great comparison, take a look at these photographs from my Park Log on Cedar Beach. These pictures are of the same flowerbeds, in late spring:

More updates to come…
UPDATE: I was informed that this particular construction is for the laying of new infrastructure, not the paths. The paths are however, coming soon.
